Etymology/ Definition स्वेदने उष्ण:। अ.हृ.सू १/१८ हेमाद्रि
ReferenceS.Su.46/522, A.H.Su.1/18 Hemaadri
Literary MeaningM / W – warm, passionate, pungent
Implied MeaningIt is hot in touch. After application of Dravya possessing Ushn`a Gun`a, they have an innate tendency to generate sweating and increase burning sensation. Mainly Pitta Dosha possesses the hot attribute.
ElaborationUshn`a attribute increases Pitta while S`heeta Gun`a increases Kapha and Vaata . With the help of hot attribute Paachaka Pitta and Agni are capable of digesting the consumed food.
This attribute reduces fluidity of Dhaatu and causes their depletion. Since hot attribute is inductive to S`hodhana it facilitates excretion of faces, urine and sweat. Excessive effect of it causes fainting, giddiness, excessive thirst and burning sensation.
Excessive application of Dravya with hot attribute produces lassitude and it is primarily seen in Agni Mahaabhoota . E. g. Pippalee ( Piper longum )
