| Elaboration | Unctuousness is an important attribute from various angles. It is responsible for continuity of the tissue metabolism in a cyclical manner. It provides the essential fuel for the continuous conversion of tissues. Out of the Dosha Kapha and Pitta posses this attribute and Vaata is annihilated, controlled by it. Uninterrupted supply of unctuousness is absolutely essential for sustenance of life. It brings about softness to the various organs, suppleness to the skin, improves the tone of muscles and improves the functions of various organs, controls Vaata activity. The dryness due to aggravated Vaata is effectively combated with use of unctuousness both internally and externally. Various combinations of unctuous substances are used e. g. sesame oil, ghee, lard and bone marrow. Snigdha Gun`a is predominantly found in Aapa Mahaabhoota . Enhanced dryness leads to various conditions like chronic constipation, cracking of skin, voice, erratic appetite etc. In this case use of medicated oils internally as Anuvaasana or externally as Abhyanga proves beneficial . |
