Elaboration | All substances can be classified into three broad categories viz. S`hamana ( pacifying, palliating ), Kopana ( irritating, aggravating ), and Svasthavritti Hitam ( promotive and preventive, conducive to good health ). Theses substances have an ability to irritate Vaataadi Dosha with their opposite ( Vipareeta ) or similar properties ( Sama Vipareeta – Hemaadri ). E. g. Phaan`eeta ( the inspissated juice of the sugar cane, Molasses ). In spite of having attributes like heaviness, unctuousness and sweetness, they tend to irritate ( Kopana ) Vaata . On the other hand Maasha ( Phaseolous mungo, a kind of pulse with seeds marked with black and grey spots ), is heavy, unctuous, slimy and has hot attributes ( A. H. Su. 6 / 21 – 22 ), and this tends to irritate Pitta and Kapha. This is an unwanted ( Vipareeta ) effect due to the analogous attribute of Maasha to Kapha and Pitta. |
