Implied MeaningA judicial use of drug, diet and regimen to relieve the disease symptoms is Upas`haya , the palliating factors.
ElaborationIt is one of the procedures to diagnose the involvement of Dosha e. g. Hot water poured over the painful joint of a person so as to reduce the intensity of pain. It indicates the involvement of Vaata Dosha . It is an important tool to diagnose a condition with masked symptomatology. It is classified in various ways as stated below:
1. Hetuvipareeta Upas`haya ( relief due to factors opposite to causative factors )
a ) Aushadhi ( Medicine )- S`hun`t`hee ( dry ginger ) is indicated in Kaphaja Jvara .
b ) Food – Rasaudana is indicated in Vaataja Jvara caused by overexertion.
c ) Vihaara ( life style )- keeping awake at nights is indicated in excess Kapha due to Divaasvaapa ( to sleep in the afternoon )
2 ) Vyaadhivipareeta ( relief due to factors opposite to disease )
a ) Aushadhi ( medicine ) – Haridraa ( turmeric ) is indicated in प्रमेह ( Diabetes ).
b ) Food – cereal soup is indicated in diarrhoea.
c ) To strain for evacuation of waste products is indicated in reverted Vaata .
3 ) Hetuvyaadhivipareeta ( relief due to factors opposite to causative factor and disease )
E. g. Vaata pacifying Das`hamoola is indicated in Vaataja S`hotha ( Oedema )
