Literary MeaningM / W – rice gruel
Implied MeaningVilepee is a thick gruel of boiled grains. It is prepared by cooking one part of grains with four parts of water till it becomes thick.
ElaborationIt is prepared from various types of grains like sesame, green gram, black gram and mainly rice.
Vilepee is satiating, good for heart, increases vigour, it is wholesome, sweet, light on digestion, aphrodisiac, stimulates digestive power, is also Basti S`hodhaka ( bladder cleansing, diuretic ) and pacifies hunger and thirst. It is beneficial in fever associated with diarrhoea. If it is prepared from green leafy vegetables and meat it is heavy to digest ( S. Su. 46 – 346 ).
Charakaachaarya describes consumption of thick gruel as one of the causative factors of प्रमेह ( Diabetes )( C. Ni. 4 / 5 ).
