Literary MeaningM / W – a kind of paste or dough prepared by boiling any medicinal substance in water
Implied MeaningIt is a type of decoction, which is prepared by using Kalka ( paste of medicine ) of various Paachana ( digestive ) and Deepana ( enhancing digestive power ) substances.
ElaborationIn Charaka Samhitaa digestive ( Paachana ) and digestive power enhancing ( Deepana Pramathya are recommended in dysentery ( in which Dosha are moderately aggravated ).
In treatment of dysentery Charakaachaarya advises various types of Pramathyaa, which are prepared by using long piper, ginger, coriander, sweet flag root.
As per S`haarangadhara preparation of Pramathyaa is as follows: Pounded drug 40 gm ( one Pala ) is boiled in eight times ( 320 ml ) of water retaining it to one fourth ( Sh.S.M.2/151 ).
Recommended Dose – Two Pala ( 80 ml ) ( S`haarangadhara )
