ElaborationPraan aayaama purifies and refines the functioning of the body and also helps to remove dullness and fatigue.
A. Sus`hruta describes Praan`aayaama as one of the steps in the treatment of Hikkaa ( Hiccups ).
Praan`aayaama is classified into 4 types: ( D`alhan`a )
1. Rechaka – expelling the breath out of one of the nostrils
2. Pooraka – closing the right nostril with the forefinger and drawing up air through the left nostril, and then closing the left nostril and drawing up air through the right nostril
3. Kumbhaka – stopping the breath by shutting the mouth and closing the nostrils with the fingers of the right hand
4. Saatavaahi
B. Sus`hruta considers it as one of the methods to assess the foreign body in the throat.
