Elaboration | Caustic alkalis are considered as superior subsidiary sharp instruments compared to leeches and अग्निकर्म ( Abrading, cauterisation ). Caustic alkalis have Aagneya property and are salty, pungent, hot and intense. Hence they act as Paachaka ( transform undigested food to digested food ), Vilayanam ( liquefaction of Vaata Kapha dominant oedema ), सौषधं ( purification of ulcer ), Ropan`a ( healing of purified ulcer ), S`hoshan`a absorption of liquid waste ( Kleda ), Stambhana ( arresting excessive bleeding ), and Lekhana ( scrapping of ulcers ).
