Etymology/ Definitionप्राणवहे द्वे, तयोर्मूलं हृदयं रसवाहिन्यश्च धमन्य:, तत्र विद्धस्याक्रोशनविनमनमोहनभ्रमणवेपनानि मरणं वा भवति । सु. शा. ९/१२ तत्र प्राणवहानां स्रोतसां हृदयं मूलं महास्रोतश्च, प्रदुननां तु खल्वेषामिदं विशेषविज्ञानं भवति; तद्यथा– अतिसृन्मतिबद्धं कुपितमल्पाल्पमभीक्ष्णं या सशब्दशूलमुच्छ्वसन्तं दृष्ट्वा प्राणवहान्यस्य स्रोतांसि प्रदुष्टानीति विद्यात्। च. वि. ५

ElaborationThis is a channel comprising of trachea, lungs.
This is a channel for input of Praan`a . It accepts external oxygen in to the lungs, which in turn is sent to each and every cell in the body.
Moolasthaana –( origin of the channel ) Hridaya, Rasavaahi Dhamanee
Viddha Lakshan`a ( causes of derangement ) – Aakros`hana, Vinamana, Mohana, Bhraman`a, Vepana, Maran`a
Causes of vitiation – Dhaatu Kshaya, Raukshya, Pipaasaa, Kshud, Vyaayaama, Vega – Dhaaran`a
Symptoms of vitiation – Ati Srisht`a – S`hvasana, Prati Baddha – S`hvasana, Alpa Alpa S`hvasana, Abheekshn`a S`hvasana,
Sas`habda S`hvasana, Sas`hoola S`hvasana
Vitiation of this Srotas should be treated like S`hvaasa .
